NextGen EHR Data Extraction & HRSA CCBHC Automated Reporting

In 2024, we partnered with Family Health Services (FHS) to engineer specialized EHR data extraction pipelines. The project is contracted as a key compliance initiative under the Cornerstone Whole Healthcare Organization (C-WHO) grant framework, funded by the federal Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). The grant supports FHS’s development and operational transition as a Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC).

NextGen EHR Data Extraction Milestone

CCBHC status requires clinics to report extensive behavioral health and quality performance metrics. To automate this process, we were tasked with executing deep database queries and automated data extraction directly from the clinic's core Electronic Health Record (EHR) platform, NextGen Healthcare.

"We became the first external company in NextGen history to perform direct data extraction and Python implementation for automated report generation."

This historic milestone bypassed restrictive native reporting templates, allowing the clinic to query custom clinical encounter patterns, diagnostics variables, and demographic correlations. By executing optimized SQL extraction layers and wrapping them in structured Python modules, we successfully automated the compilation of complex outcome reports.

Automated Pipelines & Data Governance

Our custom Python pipeline translates raw EHR tables into the exact schema required for CCBHC outcome submissions. The pipeline sanitizes and formats records, executing automated verification checks to ensure compliance with HIPAA data security standards. This automated pipeline saves hundreds of staff hours that would otherwise be spent manually compiling spreadsheets, allowing clinic coordinators to focus directly on patient care.

Project Timeline & Extension Outlook

The FHS grant program started in 2024 as a continuing 2-year initiative and is currently scheduled to conclude at the end of 2026. However, given the success of the data pipelines and the expansion of CCBHC initiatives, talks are underway for a multi-year extension. We are committed to expanding the analytical capabilities of the platform, incorporating real-time dashboards to track clinical metrics dynamically.
